Information

Outdoor Afro South Mississippi

Outdoor Afro is a community that supports reconnecting African-Americans with natural spaces and one another through recreational activities such as camping, hiking, biking, birding, fishing, gardening, skiing — and more! Outdoor Afro uses social media to create interest communities, events, and to partner with regional and national organizations that support diverse participation in the Great Outdoors.

This is OUR meeting place for all things outdoors. For all of my South Mississippi friends, family, nature enthusiasts and everyone in between. Everyone can benefit from a little (preferrably a lot) of time spent outdoors.

Your help is needed! I have entered my project, The South Mississippi Family Nature (FaN) Club into a competition for a grant through Discover the Forest and GOOD Maker. We need your vote in order to win the $1500 grant so that we can purchase outdoor recreation equipment and be better equipped to lead our friends, relatives and neighbors into the outdoors!

Yesterday's Outdoor Afro event was a success.  We hiked the trails at Paul B. Johnson State Park and grilled some hotdogs and hamburgers.  The kids played on the splash pad and us adults got our feet wet in the lake.  An awesome time was had by all.
